WHAT TO DO IF YOU SEE I.C.E. (IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT, “LA MIGRA”)

  1. Prepare and organize community self-defense guard networks. Create a phone tree with your neighbors, classmates, friends and coworkers to mass text and call in an emergency in case ICE or Immigration comes to your house, your neighborhood, workplace, school, hospital, courts or other public settings, or if ICE tries to set a street checkpoint.

  2. We cannot rely on lawyers and politicians. We have to rely on ourselves and our communities. If we do that, we can win.

  3. If you see ICE, don’t walk on or drive by. Stop take a picture and/or video, sent it to BAMN and call us, post it on social media (facebook, Instagram, twitter, snapchat, etc…) with the address and invite people to join you right away.

  4. Call your friends, neighbors, coworkers, class mates, family members who are safe to come out to disrupt and obstruct ICE activities.

—bring out signs, noise makers or other helpful tools

—block the road if there’s a checkpoint to prevent ICE from stopping cars

—form a defense line to block the entrance to the apartment complex, house, school, or workplace to deny access to ICE into the area where immigrants might be

—take collective action to surround their vehicles if they have already arrested the person or group of people

  1. Call news media to cover the incident. Ask someone in the crowd to film the ongoing incident.

  2. If you or someone you know has been detained by ICE, call BAMN immediately for legal representation.

  3. Join BAMN. Contact us to attend our next meeting and/or to form a BAMN chapter in your neighborhood, school, college or university; to form a caucus in your workplace; or to affiliate your club or organization with BAMN.

Bold community and work defense guards is the only thing that can stop I.C.E. (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) raids and prevent capture and deportations of immigrant communities.

Millions of people have joined the movement across the world, opposing and defeating some of the worst attacks from Donald Trump and his racist supporters. The city of Los Angeles and the Bay Area in California have led these efforts. Thousands of students have walked out; some schools walked out numerous times, and the ones that have not walked out yet are eager to add their school name to the list of schools and communities fighting Trump.  The LA and Bay Area walkouts have inspired thousands more across the country to follow their example and to win the first victories for the movement since Trump’s election by having local politicians declare our cities sanctuaries for immigrants, opposing Trump’s racist agenda of mass deportations even before he was inaugurated.

On January 21st, the day after Trump’s inauguration, one million people shut down LA for the women’s rights march, part of a series of worldwide demonstrations with the most popular chant in every demonstration being “Hey-Hey, Ho-Ho, Donald Trump has got to go!” The victories of our young movement have been felt at college campuses as well. We prevented Trump supporter and fascist recruiter Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking at UCLA after being canceled by the threat of protests, and the UC Berkeley students and community enthusiastically shut down his racist recruitment event with fireworks included. Los Angeles airport LAX was shut down by thousands of people demanding freedom for the refugees and immigrants targeted by Trump’s executive action, a Muslim ban. We not only won the freedom of the people detained at LAX and airports nationwide, but also rendered Trump’s order ineffective in the face of mass militant direct actions.

Defeat the Trump terror

Now Trump has unleashed his ICE dogs to terrorize immigrant communities across major cities in the US with immigration raids, carrying out his only concrete presidential plan—vicious attacks on immigrant communities. These raids can be stopped if we continue to take direct mass action to obstruct and defeat every Trump attack on our communities.

Get in contact with BAMN to organize a defense guard in your neighborhood, school and/or workplace. We have lived through the terror of more than three million people hunted down and deported under Obama’s presidency with the subservience of politicians, both Republicans and Democrats alike, as well as labor and civil rights leaders who defended his presidency and deportation policies. We cannot afford to continue living in fear now under Trump who threatens not just our loved ones, but also the promise of freedom and equality for all in America; Trump’s belligerence is a threat to the future of humanity around the world. We must embrace the fact that our movement is on the offensive like this country has never seen before.

Join BAMN now. If you go to school or college, gather your friends and supporters and invite BAMN to hold a meeting on how to start building defense guards and emergency response networks in your school with your classmates, teachers and school staff. Contact us to hold a BAMN work defense guard meeting for your worksite. Workers have the strength to stand together to protect immigrant coworkers by shutting down workplaces in case of an ICE raid by doing a sit-down strike, walking off the job together, and/or surrounding ICE vehicles and running them off the worksite.

Mass action is essential for victory

Glimpses of what we can do to stop a deportation have been seen in the example of hundreds of protestors in Phoenix Arizona who surrounded an ICE van that transported a Mexican Immigrant mother, Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos, to her deportation. The story caught the nation’s attention, shinning a light on the senselessness of immigration law and the broad extent of who is now a target for deportation under Trump—essentially every immigrant living in America. I.C.E. carried out the unjust deportation of a mother of three U.S. children who has lived in the U.S. for more than 21 years, an outstanding model citizen, someone deserving of the right to remain here with her family and in her community, someone who should be a US citizen with all the rights afforded to her. But despite not being able to stop the deportation this time, the story caught the nation’s attention because of the response of hundreds of people ready to act and intervene to stop Trump’s deportations. Our movement is growing and things are moving fast; we must be able to not only recognize our victories achieved so far, but to learn to trust our organized independent mass actions as the most effective method of struggle to defeat Trump.

One thing the recent raids have made clear is that we cannot rely on the high-sounding phrases of local politicians, and we cannot have blind faith in the law. LA and many other cities are, as of now, sanctuary for immigrants in name only—it is time for the movement to make them real sanctuaries. The true definition of a sanctuary city should be of places where the community has been made safe for immigrants, with and without papers, and unsafe for ICE kidnappers.

Established politicians, especially the Democrats, offer no real solutions other than the ordinary methods of political participation that have failed our communities, in what is anything but an ordinary situation. This is the time to be our own heroes; we can stop the deportation of our family members, neighbors, loved ones or a stranger (surely to become a close friend) if we trust our instinct to do the right thing and take initiative to intervene and stop the gross and inhumane process of deportation from being carried out.

Build the new movement

We stand on the truth and have great strength in numbers—we need only courageous leaders to join our organization, BAMN, and take the initiative to lead our communities in collective action. We must learn quickly how to draw up lessons to sharpen our methods of struggle and elevate the confidence and consciousness of our communities, setting an effective example for the national movement to follow.

BAMN is committed to building this independent movement through organized mass militant action. We believe that black and Latino/a youth can lead this movement if we act boldly and with a political method of direct mass militant struggle, the same way Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Frederick Douglass led the greatest struggles for freedom in America. We are committed to making real our definition of citizenship; if you live here, if you work here, if you go to school here, and contribute to this society culturally and/or economically, then that makes you a citizen and you should have the full rights of a citizen.

There is no question of the great contributions of the millions of immigrants with and without papers in this nation, and now there is no question of our strength when we act collectively. It is time to defend our right to justice and equality in America. It is time to defeat Donald Trump.
