Third in BAMN’s ongoing series of Public Tribunals to Fight for Full Virtual Learning and to Defeat COVID-19. Held on January 29 2022, the presentation focuses on how important school closures have proven to be in reducing the spread of COVID in countries across the world and why this critical strategy to save lives has apparently been taken off the table by every US politician, school administrator and TV pundit. The science is clear: Shut it down and we can save lives and finally get the pandemic under control. Keep re-opening and we will continue to see cycle after cycle of death and sickness.
COVID-19 Scientific Report #4 by Neal Lyons on 02/5/2022 at BAMN Public Tribunal
#4 in BAMN’s ongoing series of Public Tribunals to Fight for Full Virtual Learning and to Defeat COVID-19. Held on February 5, 2022, this presentation centers on the economics and politics behind the US’ terrible COVID policies: BAMN COVID-19 & science expert Neal Lyons reviews the latest news and information on the COVID-19 pandemic
HIGHLIGHTS:
*Bad policies around COVID not just because policymakers are stupid. Although that’s true, their stupidity has real reasoning and real interests behind it.
*US is the world leader in COVID death; US is #1 (total deaths and per capita) Everyone has same virus coming after them, right? So why is it so bad in US?
*The single biggest factor in mortality, which determines whether you live or die, is what country you live in and thats because of the policies of those countries.
*1 of every 311,000 people in China has died from COVID
*1 of every 400 people in the US has died from COVID
*180x more dead in US than China from COVID
**If US had China rate of death we would just b passing 1000 deaths now! @1,000,000 dead in the US by April 2022 Australia has 2000 deaths so far; New Zealand 51; China around 5000 (reminder: 1.5 billion people live in China)
*We could have avoided more than 899,000 of the 900,000 deaths from COVID so far in the US if we had just copied what other nations have done How can simple policies cause so much of a difference?
-Vaccines – mandates, proof of vaccination requirements
-Shutdowns and school closures – studies show 58% reduction in deaths just from school closures alone
-Masks – good quality N95 masks with mandates
-widespread testing and contact tracing so we isolate the infected
Together, these simple policies can save many many lives. BAMN is committed to saving as many as possible.
*A lot of very irresponsible propaganda on all sides – US and China. A lot of anti-China propaganda criticizes China’s “lack of freedom” for implementing lockdowns.
Let’s get real.
In the US, we don’t have the freedom to keep ourselves safe. Either we have forced re-openings or forced lockdowns. Neither one is “freedom”. Only difference is that forced re-openings cause a lot more people to die than the forced lockdowns.
Economic considerations are the main reasons for massive push to re-open schools. This is NOT a conspiracy theory. It is discussed openly and has been since the beginning of the pandemic in various economic journals and articles.
As of September 2020, estimates were that the US economy could face a $15 trillion hit as a result of school closures.
Rivalry between US & China and particular limitations of today’s US economy as sources of US’ decision to be far more reckless in its COVID policies
**The challenge we face is how do we make ourselves more powerful than the small clot of billionaires that currently determine COVID policy? That requires building a movement. And that is what these Public Tribunals are intended to do – to raise the level of consciousness and understanding of leaders and organizers of that movement.
We are not safe, until everyone is safe!
We know the policies exist that can put an end to this pandemic. We just need to fight to get them implemented. BAMN is fighting and organizing to build a movement to do just that.
